How to Swap Old Emergency Lights to Elumen Using Existing Brackets
Deliver More Cost-Effective Emergency Lights
As an electrician, you’re constantly looking for ways to improve your quality of work by providing strategic upgrades to protect your client’s assets and bottom line. Whether they are building managers, strata committees, or property owners, clients are always looking for ways to reduce long-term costs and simplify maintenance. They’re tired of frequent callouts, compliance headaches, and the disruption of a full lighting system replacement.
With your understanding of modern retrofit solutions, you can offer a streamlined, low-disruption service that traditional installations can’t match. You can deliver a superior outcome that saves your client time and money, all while strengthening your reputation as a go-to expert.
The Key Benefits You Can Offer Your Clients
When proposing an emergency lighting upgrade, focus on the value you’re providing beyond a simple replacement. Here are the core benefits you can confidently share:- Drastically Reduced Labour Costs: By using a solution compatible with their existing brackets, you eliminate a time-consuming part of drilling new holes, patching walls, and rerunning dedicated emergency lighting circuits. Your expertise in this method translates directly into a lower total project cost for them.
- Minimal Disruption & Tenant Satisfaction: Frame the faster installation process as a benefit to the building’s occupants. Less time on site means less noise and disruption to their tenants or business operations. This makes the entire project smoother for your client and their customers.
- Long-Term Savings on Energy & Maintenance: A switch to modern LED and lithium (LiFePO4) battery technology is a financial upgrade. These use significantly less energy and require fewer battery replacements over their lifespan. As a result, this means lower power bills and fewer service callouts for your client in the future.
Your Professional Advantage: The Retrofit Bracket Method
You can use existing standardised wall brackets to swap old emergency lights for Elumen’s Manly emergency exit sign, simplifying the process without rewiring.
Step 1: Identify the Bracket Type
The difference between a direct slide-on fit and a minor adaptation lies in the location of the terminal block on the existing bracket.
| Bracket Type | Common Brands (Examples) | Terminal Block Location |
| Type A | Clevertronics Cleverfit/Spirit, Legrand G2 | Towards the centre of the fitting |
| Type B | Ektor Mercury | Towards the edge of the fitting |

Step 2: The Retrofit Procedure
Now it's a smooth sailing installation when you’ve identified the bracket type.
If Clevertronics or Legrand (Type A Brackets):
You can use the new Elumen Manly emergency exit sign right out of the box. Simply remove the old fitting and slide the new one straight up onto the existing bracket. The terminal blocks will align perfectly, making the electrical connection seamless.
If Ektor (Type B Brackets):
The Manly unit will slide physically onto the existing Ektor bracket, but the wiring positions are offset. Your professional solution here is to quickly swap the internal terminal block in the new sign with a compatible adaptor block. For more instructions view the video below.
After you’ve swapped out the exit lights, check the charging LED for a green light on the top left of the sign. Now you can sit back with a hot cuppa knowing that you’ve easily swapped old emergency lights with Elumen products.
