Reducing Waste, Recycling Batteries

In celebration of World Environment Day on June 5th, Elumen is excited to launch a new initiative aimed at reducing waste and promoting sustainability. As a leading manufacturer of exit and emergency lighting, we are dedicated to minimising the environmental impact of the emergency lighting industry, especially when it comes to batteries and plastics.

How You Can Participate

  1. Return any unused Elumen or WBS exit sign decal for 10c each.

  2. Bring in Elumen or WBS batteries to recycle them responsibly.

  3. Spread the word!

Buy-Back Initiative for Unused Exit Light Decals

It’s estimated that the total lighting waste in Australia over the past year was over 1600 tonnes. When exit lights are sold in Australia, they often come with the necessary decals to cover all possible exit placement scenarios (left-facing arrow, right-facing arrow, straight ahead symbol). However, two of these decals typically go unused and are discarded. This leads to unnecessary waste over time, especially for electricians and fire contractors who have these decals ready to collect in their van.

For World Environment Day, we're launching a buy-back program!

Elumen will buy back any unused Elumen green exit light decals for 10 cents credit on Elumen products. This initiative not only helps reduce waste but also encourages a culture of recycling and sustainability in our industry.

Partnering with EXITCYCLE to Recycle Batteries

Exit Cycle Logo

At Elumen, we're committed to reducing the environmental impact of our products. Did you know that 95% of emergency lighting batteries end up in landfills each year, contributing to a staggering 90 tonnes of cadmium pollution? This is a significant environmental issue, and we're determined to change it.

That's why we've partnered with EXITCYCLE, a program initiated by Lighting Council Australia in 2015. EXITCYCLE aims to reduce the amount of toxic heavy metals entering the environment by increasing the recycling rate of emergency and exit lighting batteries. We've also switched to long-lasting lithium batteries across all our products to reduce wastage and our environmental footprint.

As a signatory, we are helping collect any Elumen or WBS branded emergency light batteries at our Silverwater warehouse for recycling. To dispose of your batteries responsibly, visit us at our warehouse.

Join Us in Making a Difference

Elumen and EXITCYCLE are dedicated to promoting the responsible recycling of emergency and exit lighting. Whether it's providing collection services, supporting reputable and responsible battery recycling facilities, or innovating newer technologies to reduce battery wastage, Elumen is committed to bringing sustainability to emergency and exit lighting.

Celebrate World Environment Day with us by participating in our buy-back and recycling initiatives. Together, we can make a significant impact on the environment and pave the way for a greener future.
